Our main program of research is the study of the quark/gluon structure of hadrons and nuclei. The research is centered on the treatment of nonperturbative as well as perturbative as well as perturbative QCD, the theory of strong quark-gluon interactions, and the interplay between the strong and electroweak interactions. Recently, we have been using the method of QCD Sum Rules to include the nonperturbative effects. In this method the nonperturbative gluonic interactions are represented by quark and gluon condensates, which were formed during an early-universe phase transition as the present physical vacuum evolved. Problems in this area completed during the past few years include the weak parity-violating nuclear interaction, isospin violations in systems of mesons and baryons and the determination of the coupling of fields to hadrons. Present work includes the properties of hadrons in nuclear matter, a topic of interest for nuclear physics as well as for nuclear astrophysics and the study of early-universe phase transitions. Related research on the use of light-cone Bethe-Salpeter integral equations allow us to study the transition from perturbative to nonperturbative QCD with increasing momentum transfer. Much of the research is carried out via joint international collaborations with Taiwanese and Chinese theorists.
