Carnegie Mellon University Prepares Physics Majors
for Careers in Physics and Related Fields

You can choose from a variety of degree options:
- B.S. in Physics
- B.A. in Physics
- B.S. in Physics with a Track (a specialization) in:
- Applied Physics
- Astrophysics
- Biological Physics
- Chemical Physics
- Computational Physics
- Minor in Physics
You will have flexibility in choosing electives within and outside of
Physics as well as minors and double majors in other subjects.
A program of laboratory practice accompanies our classroom courses.
Computers and computation can be a major part of your studies.
Your faculty advisor will work with you to develop a four year "Academic
Plan" that includes your plans for minor etc. Your faculty advisor and
other faculty members will help you find summer and academic year research opportunities.
The Department and Career Center will help you plan your future
career.
Physics majors can visit with the many recruiters who come to campus for interviews and
job fairs.
AP credit can be used for advanced standing in our program. Even if you have not taken
the AP test, credit can still be granted in some cases. See the Mellon College of Science
