Carnegie Mellon University has received a very generous gift from the estate of George Pake. This gift serves to established an endowed fund, the George E. and Marjorie S. Pake Fellowship in Physics. The income from the fund will be used "to provide fellowships to graduate students studying physics in the Mellon College of Science."

George Pake received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from then Carnegie Tech in 1945. He got his PhD from Harvard three years later. He had a distinguished academic career, although he is perhaps most noted for founding and leading the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. He passed away in March 2004.

This is a landmark for the Department and we are very grateful to have the opportunity to use these funds to attract and retain the best graduate students.
