What is it?

 

This apparatus (on display, outside Doherty Hall A301B) will become a permanent part of our Physics Museum in January 2005, but what was its original purpose?  Write a one-page description of what you think it is, and enter our “What is it?” contest.  Prizes will be awarded in four categories:

 

$25 gift card to Barnes and Nobel for…

·                    most accurate description from a physics major/minor

·                    most accurate description from a non-major/minor

·                    most creative description from a physics major/minor

·                    most creative description from a non-major/minor

 

·        All Carnegie Mellon physics majors and physics minors and all Carnegie Mellon students enrolled in any physics course during academic year 2004-05 are eligible to enter the contest.

·        Proof of student status is required for all entries.  Please include your name, email address, your major/minor and (for non-major/minors) your physics course number on entry.

·        Submit entries to Barry Luokkala, DH A301A, or email to barry.luokkala@cmu.edu

·        Only one entry per person.

·        Deadline for all entries is Monday, 17 January 2005, 12:30 P.M.

·        Winners will be announced at a Physics SAC or SPS meeting late in January or early February 2005.  (Winners need not be present at time of announcement.)
